Washington DC, USA
It was a lovely Sunday in the mid-70’s. Uncharacteristic for Maryland this time of year where it is usually freezing cold. One of those feelings that I get every time I come to our Nations Capitol is that same feeling that Mr. Smith got when he went to Washington. I’m still in awe of our political process; Its like Hollywood for ugly people. I just wish to keep it that way which requires me not to live there. it’s a great place to visit.
I stayed at the Renascence M Street Hotel, which I highly recommend for its beautiful rooms and fabulous service. The restaurant inside the hotel is what I want to focus on. The Chef is a genius. The basic fresh green salad comes to you like a work of art, fittingly placed on a white plate shaped like a painters pallet. This tantalizing array of Radicchio and Romaine lettuce was captured by a crusty pastry corralling the greens in a plum, placed on caramelized apples, cubed and shaped as a base of the decadent delicacy. Ladled in zigzag pattern was the light vinaigrette with a wedge of blue cheese and caramelized walnuts to top of the splendid presentation. I ate this salad every day I was there. Simply yummy.
I still believe in the nature and goodness of mankind and the grandeur and beatitudes that we strive to. I had the opportunity to visit my Uncle Abraham at the Lincoln Memorial--I really am related to him. Staying down at me with his avuncular stare I couldn’t help but feel and sense of awe that keeps me believing in better things--Obama is president of the United States isn’t he. How long has it been from the freedom of slave bondage to the heights of the White House. I’m proud of our president. I wish him the best, and I hope that he never falls prey to those that take this wonderful place for granted. We truly are living in a lucky time and place where freedom and access can be had by all.
Man... what a post.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt you're aware that the Zoo photo-shoot made the local news (I'm an Aussie), that's how I came to be at this site... got to admit I'm not really a Zoo reader, but congratulations of the success of the shoot! After seeing it in the latest news feeds and with a slow night at the office, curiosity had me clicking followup links.
I'm not sure this is going to sound like the compliment I mean it, but after reading this post I'm reminded of the pro-wrestler "Mankind" (A.K.A. Mick Foley)... given that he's a gap toothed, rotund bloke with bad haircut and a fondness for plaid maybe I should offer some explanation.
I dont really follow wrestling, I get it and can appreciate it, it just doesn't float my boat. However a friend told me to read "Have a nice Day", Mick Foley's autobiography. When I'd read the words of the man behind the character I was fascinated. Seeing such intelligence lurking behind the public facade is mesmerising, like listening to an architect explain his building. And I've got to admit reading a post like this was not what I was expecting when clicking a follow up link to "Record Breaking Bikini Model". Its been one of those rare moments were you get to see what lurks beneath, and even rarer still, finding it has eloquence and grace.
Anyways I ramble, I really hope you keep writing, and I do mean you, the person behind the Amazon and the Model. I do feel a bit mean spirited when I admit I wont be buying a copy of Zoo... but you've gained a reader, and if a book ever comes out you can believe I'll be head of the queue.
